CAPPRY Rovers captain Aaron Kelly believes that Cappry can be in the mix for promotion from the Temple Domestic Appliances Division One of the Donegal League come the end of the season.
Having played as a striker for many years, he is now deployed at centre-half and has been a key figure in a Cappry rejuvenation.
Indeed, as he recalls, last season with five or six games to go they were in a real battle to avoid relegation.
Now, they are looking at possible promotion to the top flight, and were boosted further by Sunday’s 2-1 win over Castlefin Celtic.
“It’s the sort of league in which anyone can beat anyone and there is still a long way to go,” he commented.
Reflecting on the win, he acknowledged that it could well have ended all square – games between Cappry and Castlefin are traditionally tight old battles.
Although a fairly youthful squad, they can still benefit from the elder statesman Ronan Coyle.
Now 45, the former Kildrum Tigers hot-shot, is still very handy to use, coming off the bench.
As Kelly observes, “he still has a great touch”.
Overall, Cappry have a settled squad and can look forward to the rest of the campaign with a degree of confidence.
