Finn Harps 2-0 Drogheda United
FINN Harps’ promotion hopes are still alive after they saw off Drogheda tonight in Ballybofey.
The sides were level at 1-1 from the first leg, but Harps were much the better side on Friday in front of an attendance of 2201 at Finn Park.
Harps went in front in the 18th minute when John Kavanagh slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
Ollie Horgan’s men could have doubled their lead but Nathan Boyle was denied by Paul Skinner.
Drogheda had a couple of chances themselves and Harps were deserving of their 1-0 lead at the break.
Boyle had two great opportunities to score after the restart, but Drogheda survived.
However, the Louth men were under a lot of pressure and they eventually conceded in the 67th minute when Nathan Boyle found the net.
Drogheda didn’t give up, but Horgan’s men stood strong and closed the game.
Harps will now take on Limerick FC over two legs for the right to play in the Premier Division next year. The first game is at Finn Park on Monday October 29, with the return fixture at the Markets Field four days later.
