Junior and Leaving Cert exams are underway

Around 5,000 students in Donegal began their exams on Wednesday and were relieved to actually have got started. Both started with English with Leaving Cert students having Home Economics, Scientific and Social exams in the afternoon and Junior Cert having a second English paper in the afternoon. All students will be finished by this day (Friday) two weeks.

Niamh Greaney and Claire Grant both sat the Higher Leaving Cert English Paper and felt the essay titles were fine with lots of scope even is the prose was a bit more difficult.

“It was not what we anticipated and I think the essay titles were way more aimed at girls – there were titles about clothes, which was great,” Niamh said.

Latvian twins Tatjana and Viktorija Vasilevska were well pleased with their performance in the Higher Level English.

“It was brilliant with good choice. The theme was mystery which gave plenty of scope,” Tatjana said.
Both girls believed that after living here for five years they should be capable of taking the Higher Level Paper.

Sharon Mitchell, Laura Keys and Aine Kelly were just relieved to have got the first examination over them. “The themes were good. Everyone is more nervous waiting for the exams to start. It’s good to have the first one over us,” they agreed.

While most of the Leaving Certificate students we spoke to were looking forward to having the afternoon and tomorrow morning off before their second English Paper, the Junior Certificate students were back in the afternoon for more writing in English Paper Two.

Commenting on the morning English Paper in the Junior Cert Sophie Burke, Rachael Walker and Molly Lynch agreed the paper was ‘doable’.

“It was easier than we thought. We’ re relieved to get started,” she added.
