TRAFFIC congestion in Letterkenny on Friday, July 12 was some of the worst ever seen in the town with long queues on access roads from morning until late evening.
Motorists contacted the Donegal News this week complaining about delays throughout Friday on all of the approach roads, and massive delays trying to get through town.
One motorist who left Rahn at around 5.15pm spent two hours in traffic just to get to the Mountain Top.
Another motorist, having waited in a long queue on the inward lane of the dual carriageway, around 1pm, planning to travel to the west of the county, gave up after more than half and hour and turned at the Dry Arch Roundabout and headed back towards Derry.
The queues up Lurgybrack stretched all the way up the hill and out of sight and the back road over Leck was also gridlocked.
No one was available from the Chamber of Commerce to comment on the gridlock.
We asked Donegal County Council whether or not road works on the back road from Ballybofey to Letterkenny at Listack Road, Rahn, could have contributed to the congestion.
We did not receive a reply at the time of going to press yesterday.
