Judge criticises the number of cases being adjourned

A JUDGE criticised the adjournment of a number of cases at Letterkenny District Court this week.

Judge Emile Daly made her comments as she addressed solicitors on Monday. Her comments came as a number of solicitors sought adjournments well into the new year for some of their cases.

“A lot of these matters are being adjourned,” she said. “We have to make progress on something.

“A number of matters that are listed for today are for pleas or dates, and they are not getting pleas or dates.”

Judge Daly was welcomed to court earlier this month by court staff, as well as legal practitioners and gardaí, when she sat for the first time at Letterkenny District Court.

She replaces Judge Éiteáin Cunninghamwho has taken up a new posting in District Court Area 2, which covers Sligo, Leitrim and south Donegal courts.
