GLENVEAGH CASTLE will be launching its new touch screen kiosks as part of Heritage Week 2023, which runs from Saturday 12 to Sunday 20 of August.
Glenveagh was a mecca for the rich and famous from the late 1800’s to the 1980’s. A wide variety of fascinating guests, including actors, writers, poets and statesmen came here for the fishing, hunting and deer stalking.
Both the Guest Books and Game Books from each of the owners’ periods in Glenveagh have been digitized so you can discover for yourself exactly who stayed here and what they did to entertain themselves.
Visitors can browse through the many pages of signatures, photos, drawings and poems depicted in the books by the guests who visited and immerse themselves in another time and age.
Just as the National Park provides a setting for the castle, the museum – through displays and future exhibitions – can enhance the interpretation of the park, its hunting traditions and its past.
Glenveagh Castle was recently awarded ‘Interim Accreditation’ under the Heritage Council’s Museum Standards Programme for Ireland (MSPI). Funding for the Kiosks was successfully secured from the Heritage Council’s Heritage Stewardship Fund 2023.
Local councillor and Cathaoirleach of the Glenties MD, Michael McClafferty, welcomed the improvements at Glenveagh Castle which he said will lead to a significant increase in visitors, not just at Glenveagh but in the many surrounding towns and villages.
“Fair play to all the staff at Glenveagh who always go beyond the call of duty for visitor’s experience,” he added.
