Journalist, author and feminist activist Nell McCafferty (80) has died.
She passed away this morning, Wednesday, August 21 at a nursing home in Donegal.
Born in Derry in 1944, Ms McCafferty grew up in the Bogside.
During her studies in Queens University, she got involved in civil rights politics.
She spent time teaching briefly before beginning her journalism career.
Ms McCafferty was a founding member of the Irish Women Liberation Movement.
She found her voice in writing on women and women’s rights, poverty and social injustices in the Ireland of the late 1960s and 1970s.
