Let’s talk about ‘Kneecap’

There’s no doubt that everybody’s talking about the movie Kneecap at the moment. It premiered on Thursday night and is currently running at Century Cinemas, Letterkenny as well as around the country, the UK and beyond. What is the big deal and what is everybody saying about it?

Well in order to find out just that, Líonra Leitir Ceanainn, Letterkenny’s dedicated office to promoting the Irish language in the town are hosting a discussion about the movie in the Station House Hotel on Tuesday evening at 20:30  after the screening of the movie.

The discussion will be ‘as Gaeilge’ and all are welcome to attend whether they can speak just a cúpla focail or are ‘líofa’ sa teanga (fluent).

Based on the origin story of the riotous and ground-breaking Irish-language rap trio of the same name, Kneecap the movie presents the Irish language like you’ve never heard it before. Starring global movie star Michael Fassbender, the movie which is set in west Belfast in 2019 chronicles how fate brings the trio together and how they go on to ‘change the sound of Irish music forever’.

The politically charged movie which features sex, drugs and rap n’roll is not advised for viewers under 16 years.

Speaking to the Donegal News today, staff from Century Cinemas said that tickets are selling well and seem to be picking up over the weekend as hype builds.

You can book your tickets at Century Cinemas or for more information and to join the live discussion, email eolas@lionralc.ie.

We have our tickets booked and will be reviewing it in next week’s paper.
