John Paul Gallagher

JOHN Paul Gallagher has been appointed as the new manager of 2014 Donegal Intermediate champions Cloughaneely.
The Falcarragh club have been on the look-out for a new boss following confirmation that Joe McGarvey wasn’t seeking another term at the helm. McGarvey guided Cloughaneely to IFC glory when they defeated Buncrana in the final.
The following day, they defied the odds to defeat Castledawson in an Ulster quarter-final, but their heroics were ended when they fell to Warrenpoint in an Ulster semi-final.
Gallagher was a member of McGarvey’s backroom team last year and the former Cloughaneely star is highly thought of within the squad. Cloughaneely will return to the senior championship this year and operate in Division 2 of the All-County League.
Donegal Junior champions Urris have also had a change of the guard as Mark Gilmore has been appointed to the hotseat at Straid. Danny Kelly led Urris to the Junior title, overcoming Naomh Ultan in the final and the Inishowen side went on a memorable march to the Ulster JFC final, where they lost out to Rock St Patrick’s of Tyrone.
Kieran Canny has returned as manager of Carndonagh. Canny was manager in 2008 when Carn won the Junior Championship and he is back for another go succeeding Tony McGinn. Carndonagh were relegated to Division 4 in 2014, winning just one of their 18 games in Division 3. Canny took the Carndonagh ladies to a junior title last year and they also reached the Ulster final, where they were pipped by Dromore from Tyrone.
Na Rossa have also a new manager for 2015 as Damian Devenney has been ratified in Dooey. Devenney is a native of Monaghan who has been based in Ballybofey for the best part of the last two decades. Devenney was heavily involved in the underage set-up at Sean MacCumhaills. He has close family ties to the Na Rossa area with his mother hailing from Lettermacaward.
