John Logue remembered as ‘great dad’

By Jarlath Cowan

JOHN Logue was a man known for his warmth, wit, and unwavering love for his family, mourners at his funeral heard yesterday.

Mr Logue tragically lost his life after an accident involving farming machinery on Tuesday.

Yesterday at Requiem Mass at St Patrick’s Church, Aghyaran, close to the Donegal border, lead by Fr Paul Fraser, Mr Logue was remembered as “first and foremost, a family man” who had a passion for farming and driving.

“John was a man who loved the craic, and he was able to give the stick as well as take it,” said Fr Fraser.

“But in spite of his banter and constant trademark slagging, he could also make you feel better with his hearty laugh and his big smile.

“The same is true of his three sisters. He teased them, slagged them, and even had wicked nicknames for them… but they knew they could always count on him. He was a great brother.

“The children in the family always loved John and followed him around like the Pied Piper. He would always fill them with fizzy drinks and sweets before sending them home.”

Fr Fraser also described Mr Logue as a ‘great dad’.

“He was a great dad to young Dylan,” he said. “He taught him a lot, and most recently got him into clay pigeon shooting like his own father had done with him in the past.”

Mr Logue had been a member of a local clay pigeon shooting club since the year 2000.

In a social media post following Mr Logue’s passing, a spokesperson for Shanaghey Shooting Ground said he had taken part in a competition last Friday evening.

“John ended up shooting his very first straight to make it into the final and finished in the prizes. To say he was over the moon would be an understatement.

“Sadly he won’t see his photos of the finalists’ line-up and prizegiving.

“He was very proud of Dylan and a great father, always making him a cup of tea and something to eat.

“He enjoyed playing pool with the rest of the competitors while waiting to get a shot.

“John was always in good spirit with a hearty smile on his face.”

The club spokesperson passed on their condolences to John’s family and said activities at the club on Friday had been cancelled as a mark of respect.

A much loved daddy to Dylan, beloved son of Rebecca and the late Charlie, loving brother of Ann Marie (Noel), Lorraine (Kieran) and Charlene (Jason), dearest uncle of Keela, Koa, Niamh, Cathal and Kayden, Mr Logue will be sadly missed by his heartbroken family and family circle, and his good friends and neighbours.
