NEW Cork City manager John Caulfield has hailed Johnny Dunleavy after the Ballybofey man re-signed for the Turners Cross club for the 2014 season.

The versatile 22-year old has put pen to paper on a contract that will see him play his third season with the Leesiders.

“He is what we want in the squad; a real winner,” said Caulfield.

“He believes in the club and believes we can win trophies.

“He has been a fantastic player for us, he has a super attitude and he is another top quality player.

“He is very versatile; he can play anywhere across the back four and in midfield.

“I see in him another guy who is really passionate about the club and when I met him he was always keen to sign back.

“I am very pleased that we are signing guys like Johnny back, and with the new signings coming in too, it is shaping up nicely.”

Cork finished sixth in the 2013 Premier Division, but Dunleavy believes that the club can make a push for the upper reaches next season.

“I think it is a massive opportunity for us all to push on and achieve something,” Dunleavy said.

“It is a very exciting time for the club with John (Caulfield) coming in as manager and so many signings being made.

“Our signings have been a statement of intent for the year to come. They are all players who would have been sought after by other clubs, and it shows that they feel we are going to achieve something down here.”

Dunleavy was signed by Cork prior to the start of the 2012 season after being released by Wolverhampton Wanders when an injury cut short a loan stint at Barnet. He subsequently had a trial at Vancouver Whitecaps, but settled on a return to Ireland.

He said: “I’ve loved it in Cork since I’ve been here and I’m delighted to be back for another season.”
