JASON Quigley’s third professional fight date has been confirmed with the Ballybofey man taking to Boston at the end of next month.
Quigley (2-0) will be in action on Thursday, October 30th at the Plymouth Memorial Hall, Boston, Massachusetts and will be looking to keep his unbeaten record going.
The 23-year-old Quigley boxes out of the star-studded Golden Boy Promotions stable in Los Angeles and after his wins over Howard Reece and Fernando Najera, the Finn Valley man is expected to be fighting in front of a huge Irish crowd in Boston.
An opponent has yet to be confirmed for Quigley – who is set to return Stateside next week – but his management company, Sheer Sports Management, have announced that his bout will be the television opener on the card to be shown on Fox Sports 1.
“I can’t wait to fight there in front of all the Irish supporters,” Quigley said.
He has already built up a following in America with several Irish fans traveling to watching his wins over Reece and Najera in Las Vegas and Carson.
On July 12, Quigley took just 82 seconds to put an end to Reece’s bout in the MGM Grand, a cracking way to announce his arrival on the professional stage.
He followed it up in August when he overcame Najera at The StubHub Center. The Mexican didn’t answer the bell for the fourth round of their contest after taking some fierce punishment from Quigley.
After that win, De La Hoya outlined his hopes for Quigley in an interview with the Donegal News, in which he confirmed that Golden Boy intended their man to have a homecoming bout in Ireland, but not too early in his career. A fight in Boston will aid significantly in garnering the support of the Irish community, which has a large base in ‘Beantown’.
De La Hoya said: “Ireland is a massive fight town and we feel that it’s important to take him back there. Maybe when he’s 10-0 or 12-0 we’ll get him there. We will take his career one fight at a time.”
A former ten-time world champion, he added of Quigley: “I have no doubt that he will be a world champion one day…Jason is the whole package.”
After a standout amateur year in 2013, when he won senior Irish and European titles before going on to claim a silver medal at the World Championships, Quigley was snapped up by De La Hoya and is looking to continue his progress in the professional ranks.
