A LETTERKENNY man who is currently rowing from Lanzarote in the Canary Islands to Antigua in the heart of the Caribbean is nervously preparing to tackle strong winds on the high seas.
Jason Black, who is two weeks into the challenge in aid of ‘Race against Dementia’, took to social media today to update the public on his progress.
With no bumps along the way as of yet, Jason told followers that “suspected” high winds are due this afternoon.
Currently sailing in “flat calm conditions”, Jason is working to secure the boat.
“We plan to row until three.
“We believe we will have no choice but to come off the oars with the 15 knots headwind that will force us to go into para anchor which is a large parachute that we put to the front of the boat and tie it on to slow our pushback.
“We believe we will be on that for 18 to 20 hours and there after we will have positive winds pushing us in a westerly direction.
“We are really looking forward to seeing those come,” he said.
The video ends with some motivational words from Jason.
“Whatever obstacles you meet today, it is only an obstacle, it is there for a reason, find a solution, jump it, go around it, go through it,” he said.
