‘It was a really tough game’ – Gallagher

By Ryan Ferry

Eoghan ‘Ban’ Gallagher was pleased to come away with two league points on Sunday in Letterkenny but admitted that the team didn’t produce a great second half performance.

Donegal top the standings in Division 1 after a third win on the bounce.

It was far from an easy day for football but Donegal were much the better team.

“It was a really tough game in tough conditions,” said Gallagher.

“I thought we played really well in tough conditions and controlled the game for long spells.

“We got a good few scores against the breeze which was important and then we kind of kept them at arm’s length.

“It wasn’t a great second half performance but no we are happy with the win.”

Donegal scored 11 points from 13 shots in the first half and that helped them to push ahead.

However, they didn’t have as much possession in the second half as Mayo won a string of their kick-outs and that’s something that the Killybegs man feels will have to be addressed.

“We were very efficient.

“But longer term, looking at the bigger picture, we can’t be relying on being very, very efficient like we were today.

“We are going to have to get better at winning our own kick-outs.

“I’m sure Jim will be sitting down now and looking at that.

“We have Armagh now next week and we will look forward to that.”
