THE Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (ISPCC) has encouraged anyone impacted by the tragedy in Creeslough to reach out for support in the weeks and months ahead.
The organisation said they are there to assist parents or carers, children and young people as they come to terms with the enormous loss.
“The tragic event at Creeslough in Donegal has left this country reeling, and all in ISPCC wish to express our sympathy for the victims’ families, those injured in the explosion and the entire community, which is experiencing such unprecedented suffering. It will take a long time for people to come to terms with such a horrific accident,” said an ISPCC spokesperson.
“It may be difficult to know how to help children and young people make sense of this tragedy. For parents and carers, it can be hard to judge the best way to approach discussing such a shocking event and the sorrow surrounding it. We are here to assist parents/carers and children and young people in the days, weeks and months ahead.”
ISPCC’s Support Line service is available between 9am and 1pm, Monday to Friday. Call 01 522 4300 or email parentingsupport@ispcc.ie
“We can help any parent or carer who is seeking information on how to support the children they care for at this difficult time. We also provide the Childline suite of services and supports. It is very difficult for children and young people to process the scale of the tragedy at Cresslough. They will be saddened and shocked by the unimaginable loss and events of the past number of days. The Childline service is available whenever they want to talk. It is Ireland’s only active listening service for all children and young people. Any child or young person can contact Childline’s 24-hour support line by chatting online at Childline.ie, texting 50101 or calling 1800 66 66 66.”
