A NEW Rector has taken up his role in the Church of Ireland parishes of Dunfanaghy, Raymunterdoney and Tullaghobegley.
The Service of Institution for Rev David MacDonnell was conducted by Bishop Ken Good, Bishop of Derry & Raphoe, on Saturday in Holy Trinity Dunfanaghy.
Rev MacDonnell was born and grew up outside of Carrickmacross in County Monaghan.
He trained as a primary school teacher and worked for four years in Gaelscoil Chnoc Liamhna near Rathfarnham in South Dublin.
At the age of 25, he left teaching and began his training for ordination. He began his ministry as curate in the Christ Church Cathedral Group of Parishes in Dublin.
During his curacy he has served the inner-city churches of St Werburgh’s, St Michan’s and All Saints’, Grangegorman along with the chaplaincy of St James’ Hospital and the Law Society of Ireland.
He enjoys music, the Irish language, the great outdoors and photography.
The guest preacher at the Service was the Very Revd Katherine Poulton, Dean of Ossory.
A large congregation attended the Service, including David’s family and many friends from Dublin.
They joined with parishioners and representatives across all parts of the community, to wish David in his new role.
Following the Service the congregation were invited to refreshments in the Parish Hall where speeches of welcome were made.
