A WELL-known Irish language theatre company is bringing its latest production to Letterkenny’s An Grianán Theatre later this month.

Connemara’s Fíbín Teo is celebrating its tenth birthday in style this year as it brings its show Sétanta on a nationwide tour.

Sétanta is an avant-garde depiction of an age-old saga in Irish Mythology as it tells the story of how the title character and his ill-fated friend, Ferdia become sworn enemies under the reign of the all-powerful Medb.

Fíbín breathes new life into this ancient myth by using imaginative techniques to captivate its audience. From the use of multimedia involving explosive visuals to music especially composed by Mel Mercier to the 50 hand-made masks, this depiction of a tale riddled with greed, power, envy and love is sure to draw audiences closer to the action.

Written by Irish playwright Paul Mercier and produced by Darach Ó Tuairisg, founder of Fíbín, Sétanta first went on stage in 2011 and was the first Irish language play to appear at The Abbey Theatre in 25 years.

Based in Indreabhán the Irish-language theatre and puppeteering company has produced and performed shows to audiences of over 400,000 at home and abroad including Scotland, Wales, England, Belgium, Norway, Canada and Africa with tours to the US planned this year.

Fibín’s production of Sétanta will be staged at An Grianán Theatre, Letterkenny April 22 and 23. For bookings call the box office on el 07491 20777.
