AN INQUEST into the death of Lifford drowning victim David Colhoun will take place this morning in Letterkenny.
The 22-year-old’s remains were found in the River Finn in February last year, 10 months after he escaped from PSNI custody.
Mr Colhoun was arrested during a night out in Strabane but managed to evade capture while being transferred between police cars. It is understood he entered the river in a bid to swim back to his native Lifford.
A full inquest into the tragedy is due to begin this morning in Letterkenny’s Mount Errigal Hotel. It is not clear whether police witnesses will be called to give evidence however it is known that two of David Colhoun’s siblings will.
His father, Joseph Colhoun, told the Strabane Chronicle that the only thing he expected from the inquest was a death certificate.
“All we want is the death certificate because I have no proof that my son is dead. It’s nearly three years and I still have no proof that he is dead.
“I lost him and I still don’t know in what circumstances. But I have to get answers.
“If I can get the death certificate then the whole thing will be turned over to my barrister and he can take it from there. It’s far from over,” Mr Colhoun said.
