AN Inishowen woman who has been living with MS for over 10 years is encouraging people to take part in “The MS Ireland May 50k” challenge.
The premise is simple: walk, roll or run 50 kilometres during the month of May in return for sponsorship.
Niamh McCarron from Inishowen has been living with MS for over 10 years and she will be doing the challenge in May.
“I am keen to promote that it is possible to live well with MS and a diagnosis is just the starting point, not the end.
“I look forward to taking part in the May 50k to raise awareness of the importance of research in Multiple sclerosis,” said Niamh.
The May 50K is a global fitness and fundraising challenge to raise money for MS research worldwide and also support MS Ireland projects and services. MS Ireland is calling on participants of all ages and abilities to take up the month-long challenge in the run up to World MS Day on 30th May.
Ava Battles, CEO MS Ireland, said “Take part on your own, create a family team or get your workplace involved. It’s a virtual event and can be done anywhere. Clock those kilometres on the way into work, around your garden, in the supermarket as it all counts. All retails on www.themay50k.ie.
“There are over 9,000 people in Ireland living with multiple sclerosis. Every step you take, every kilometre you clock, helps people get access to the treatment they need today and takes us closer to finding a cure for MS. 30% of all funds raised go towards funding life-changing MS Research and 70% goes to local services and supports in Ireland”.
MS Ireland have teamed up, for a third year with the MSIF, and MS Societies from Canada, The Netherlands, Germany and the UK to Leave MS where it belongs, behind us.
The money fundraised helps support people affected by MS around the world including Ireland, alongside funding life-changing research into the prevention, treatment and finding a cure for multiple sclerosis.
