The designers of Donegal’s grand final entry are Aoife McLaughlin from Urblereagh, Malin Head and Éimear McLaughlin, Malin, from Carndonagh Community School.

From over 2,000 online entries from across 20 dresses were selected in each province. Out of the final 80, Aoife and Éimear’s design was selected to at the northern region semi-final in the Millennium Forum, Derry, to proceed to the grand final.

Eimear said: “We heard about Junk Kouture through our art teachers and we thought it would be a good opportunity to participate in this year’s competition as we’re in transition year.

“Our dress is called Automaton. We sourced our materials from the local recycling centre and we had access to Inishowen Motor’s scrap yard in Malin.

“We started making our dress at the end of September and continued the process right through until the end of January.

“Our dress has a car theme to it and it’s made from a variety of materials such as nuts and washers, circuit boards, light bulbs, ropes and chains and the head piece is made out of a hubcap and a car head light.”

Aoife and Éimear would appreciate if people from around the county would give their dress Autmaton their online vote at www.junkkouture.com.
