THE Inishowen Gospel Choir will be hosting a celebration of soul music at Derry’s Nerve Centre later this month.

‘Soul Train’ will see the choir give their own unique treatment to some of the best-known soul and Motown classics.

The choir, with the help of some special guest singers, will perform numbers by the likes of Al Green, Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Martha and the Vandellas and Stevie Wonder.

Guest performers on the night will be Katie Richardson of Katie and the Carnival, Declan McClafferty of Donegal group In Their Thousands, Steven McCool of Derry’s Little Bear and Jeanette Hutton of the Jeanette Hutton Band.

The event, on April Saturday 26th, is the latest musical collaboration by the choir which has performed with some of the biggest names in Irish music and regularly collaborates with local talent in the north west.

Manager of the choir, Yvonne McFadden, said the night will be a great opportunity to hear reworkings of classic songs.

“These songs are known by everybody and are such a large part of our musical culture. They are well-suited to being song by a choir and it will be great to perform them with some of the outstanding musical talent we have here. This will be a great showcase for local music.”

Tickets cost £7 and are available from the Nerve Centre and at www.nervecentre.org
