Information appeal after woman beaten in savage assault

Shanan in the immediate aftermath of her horrific ordeal.

A young Donegal woman has appealed for help in tracing the man who beat her to a pulp in a vicious weekend attack.

Shanan Reid McDaid was out in Letterkenny on Saturday night when she was set upon by an unidentified male. She suffered horrendous injuries and is urging the public to help her track down her attacker.

Writing on her Facebook page, Shanan said, “Between 2.59am and 3.10am a man followed me up past the brewery and outside Cara House attacked me. The man was around 5″9′ and roughly between the age of 30 and 40.

“I’m not 100 per-cent sure what he looked like but he seemed to be wearing what I made out to be a navy/dark coloured blazer with a white/light coloured shirt underneath. I don’t think the blazer was part of a suit as I think he wore dark denim jeans. I believe his hair was a light brown/dirty blonde colour.”

Shanan with her face badly swollen after being set upon close to Letterkenny’s Cara House. Did you see her attacker?

Shanan said the man spoke only two words to her when he called her a “slut” and a “bitch” but as far as she could make out, his accent was either Donegal or from Northern Ireland.

“This happened in front of Cara House, to the right side of the building when looking up from the brewery,” the badly bruised young woman continued.

“The man may have headed towards the cathedral and got a taxi or he may have went down Church Lane and continued about his business down the street.

“Really he could have gone any direction north of Cara House. If anyone knows anyone who is a taxi driver and wouldn’t mind asking the question if they heard, saw or collected anyone between 3am and 3.20am that night around the Cathedral.”
