ONE of Ireland and Donegal’s hottest acts In Their Thousands have been rocking all over the mainland on their first ever European tour.

Last week North Donegal band In Their Thousands took off in their tour van, affectionately known as Big Blue, for a three-week tour taking them to the UK, Belgium Holland and Germany.

Downings Brothers Aidan and Declan McClafferty, their cousin Ruairí Friel from Fanad, and Ramelton man Liam Kelly have gone on to nationwide critical acclaim since forming two years ago, winning the Guinness Arthur’s Day Play On The Day award in association with Hotpress and featuring on national television and radio.

After performing to yet another large crowd in Bush Hall, London, the four friends took off on the ferry to Belgium where they performed in Brussels, before driving on to Holland. On Monday In Their Thousands landed in Germany where they are this week spending the biggest leg of their tour.

On Monday night they performed in Dortmund to a packed out house at the very unique tOnbande venue. Last night, the boys were playing in The Brause in Dusseldorf, where ex Pats and German music fans alike took to the Donegal band straight away.

One of Germany’s rising singer songwriters, Stefan Honig (@honigsounds) who is signed to a German record label, also paid a visit to the gig to open for In Their Thousands, much to the delight of the music fans, receiving a double treat.

Tonight In Their Thousands are playing in Bochum, before they go on to Wuppertal on Thursday, Monchengladbach on Friday and finishing their German leg of the tour in the beautiful pilgrimage town of Kevelaer on the Dutch border.

The band then has a few days break to make their way to Cornwall where they have lined up several gigs before coming home to these shores to perform in Galway and Cork (see full tour listing below).

The county has always had great musical musical ambassadors representing Donegal all over the world and, no doubt, our boys In Their Thousands are doing us all very proud on their current tour of Europe.
