Important Lifford resource centre ‘nearing a cliff edge’

HAVING served the community for 33 years, it’s emerged that the Lifford Clonleigh Resource Centre has operated without core funding for the past 13 years.

Financially, the centre now faces a critical juncture where dedicated community worker positions may be at risk, affecting the centre’s daily operations and development.

Management, staff, and the local community have united to seek assistance from local public representatives in supporting the sustainability of the centre. An information meeting took place in Lifford yesterday to address pressing concerns.

“While we are not on the cliff edge yet, we are nearing the top. We are asking for support and for you as local representatives to advocate for core funding before it reaches crisis point,” Brid Foley, the centre coordinator told those in attendance.

Cllr Gerry Crawford of Fianna Fáil acknowledged the significant efforts of local volunteers in sustaining the facility, particularly over the past 13 years without core funding. Garry Doherty of Sinn Féin recognised the necessity for a long-term solution to ensure the centre’s continued operation.

Also present was local election candidate Charles Ward, who expressed a verbal commitment to support opportunities for securing core funding.
