Important fundraiser held at Gaoth Dobhair GC

Members at Gaoth Dobhair Golf Club along with visitors from neighbouring Clubs were delighted to take part in the ‘Play In Pink’, Golf Competition recently.

Played in glorious sunshine, organisers, husband and wife team, Kathleen and Michael Rodgers, are grateful to all who made a special effort to make the day the success that it was raising over €1,100 for a cause that touches the lives of many.

The proceeds to the National Breast Cancer Research Institute allows them to carry out vital research so that patients can be best served. This organisation is largely funded from voluntary fundraising activities like ‘Play In Pink’ and as 1 in 7 women in Ireland are affected by Breast Cancer and with currently over 3,500 new cases diagnosed annually, it is not only a fun day of golf but a way of contributing to this worthy cause. Many thanks to the players who incorporated the ‘bándearg’ in their golfing attire and as can be witnesses in the photographs, looked vibrant and colourful on the course on such a beautiful day. Maith sibh uilig. Played over two days, the competition was close with Bríd Mhic Cumhaill emerging as the Ladies winner on a BOT. Well done Bríd. Full list of results: 1 Bríd Mhic Cumhaill 40 points; 2 Marie Ferry 40 points; 3 Maeve Gillespie 36 pts; F9 Frances Sweeney 19 points and B9 Danielle Nic Pháidín 19 points; Comhghairdeachas le ex-officio John Diver who won the men’s competition with 41 points and Christopher Mc Bride and Charlie Sweeney who were second and third with 38 points each. The presentation took place in the Clubhouse after winner Bríd Mhic Cumhaill and her playing partner Moya O Donnell served refreshments. Míle buíochas libh beirt as na blaisíní blasta.
