THE LETTERKENNY man whose home and jeep was targeted in a terrifying pipe bomb attack yesterday spoke of the ‘huge stress’ his family were under as a result.
Speaking to the Donegal News from his home at Manor View Park, Mr Alan Coyle (59), said they were ‘terrified’ and under huge strain but ‘he would not be leaving his home’ following such intimidation.
Mr Coyle, was with his wife Geraldine and their 13-year-old daughter Katie, when he heard a massive explosion at about 3.40am on Friday. Mr Coyle, said he had his own views about a possible motive, but would not discuss those publicly as a major garda investigation was underway into the mindless attack.
“I’m not involved in any criminality. There are all sorts of rumours going about the town, but I want to state this has nothing to do with drugs or paramilitaries,” he said. “I have my own suspicions, but I never thought it would be taken to this extreme,” he added.
Mr Coyle confirmed gardai are keeping an ‘open mind’ as to a motive and a number of lines of enquiry were being followed as part of the investigation,”
Despite the ordeal, Mr Coyle, said he would not be bullied into moving from his home.
“I will not be moving. I will not be frightened out of my home. We haven’t slept or eaten properly since the attack- it has put a huge drain on us all- physically and emotionally.
