Sunday 1st March see’s Illistrin FC’s U15 team push to make the quarter finals of this year’s SFAI trophy competition as they take on St Joseph Reds of Athlone at The Aura Leisure Centre pitch.
The U15 side are well accustomed to the big match day experiences having contested strongly both locally and in national competitions over the past number of years. Illistrin secured a much-deserved home fixture for this weekend’s clash following an impressive 2-0 away win against well know Dublin outfit Cherry Orchard at the start of February.
This team, under the stewardship of Seamus Murphy ably assisted by Michael McGlynn and Ciaran McElwainne had battled through the earlier rounds of the competition in the autumn of 2025. Having beaten St Catherines of Killybegs in the Ulster final back in December ‘25- the boys made their way into the National Trophy phase.
Strong wins against Cootehill Harps in Cavan and then Cherry Orchard in Dublin has seen them setting up this eagerly awaited home fixture against Athlone side St Josephs Red.
Head coach, Seamus Murphy said ‘these boys have worked so hard over the past number of years and deserve every bit of success that comes their way. To go come away with the win against a strongly fancied Cherry Orchard side shows the character and spirit that these boys have – not to mention football abilities. They are a credit to themselves and the club’.
Club chairman Annraoi Cheevers added ‘on behalf of everyone from the club we want to congratulate these boys and their coaches on another fantastic run. We’re hoping for a big turnout now – so if you are about on Sunday, please pop down and give the boys as much sideline support as we can’.

The game takes place at The Aura Leisure Centre and kicks off this Sunday (1st March) at 2:30 pm sharp. All support welcome.
