DONEGAL IFA are set to hold their County Executive Meeting tonight on McHugh’s farm in Dunfanaghy at 7:30pm.
With County Executive Meetings generally being held in hotels, last year the IFA decided to change their strategy by holding meetings on farms.
The meeting will mainly focus on the new sheep scheme. David Coen from Sheep Ireland, Darren Carty from The Farmers Journal and Tommy Doherty from Teagasc will be in attendance to update farmers and answer any questions that may arise.
David Coen from Sheep Ireland will be informing farmers about the changes in the new Sheep Improvement Scheme.
Adrian Gallagher, IFA Sheep Chairman said one of the criteria’s to qualify was that every farmer had to purchase a genotype approved ram.
“David will give an update on the whole topic around genotyping of rams,” he said.
Darren Carty from The Farmers Journal will give an update on the whole sheep sector, market output, new markets and costings on finishing lambs and if it is viable or not.
Tommy Doherty from Teagasc is going to give farmers an update around the TAMS grants.
Speaking ahead of the meeting Adrian said the meeting is open to all farmers.
“It is important all farmers attend to keep up to date on the schemes and there will be plenty of time to ask questions afterwards,” he said.
