Kevin McGettigan thought Naomh Conaill’s ‘hunger and heart’ was the difference as they eventually saw off Gaoth Dobhair at the third attempt on Wednesday.
McGettigan, who was one of the top performers over the trilogy of games, says his team were determined to get their hands on the silverware, and he also paid tribute to his club’s supporters.
“I would say it was the hunger and the heart and everything that we had from the last few years that got us over the line in the end up.
“And the fans gave us great support. That blue brigade of ours were unbelievable.
“I can’t wait to see all those young boys breaking into the team over the next few years.”
Naomh Conaill were excellent defensively over the three games but particularly last night when they held Gaoth Dobhair to just seven points.
“That’s down to the management and their defensive set-up. We’re just their robots. They tell us what to do and we do it.
“We play on the edge and I think that’s our biggest strength.”
It was well after midnight by the time Naomh Conaill reached Glenties last night and were greeted by their supporters.
They will bask in the glory for a few days before turning their attention to their Ulster Club quarter-final with Castlerahan (Cavan) on Sunday at 2.30pm.
That will be a tough task, but McGettigan believes they can win.
“We might have tired bodies but we are well battle-hardened in fairness.
“Hopefully we can build on this now and go on a good run in Ulster.”
