There was a huge turnout at the Amyloidosis conference in Gaoth Dobhair today. Close to 200 people attended the ‘Emerging from the shadows’ event to shine a light on the rare and serious hereditary condition.
It is also called ‘Donegal Amy’ because of its prevalence in the county and is characterised by a build-up of abnormal amyloid or protein deposits in one or more organs and other parts of the body.
Speakers included world-renowned experts Professor Julian Gillmore and Professor Mary Reilly, and leading professionals in the field from across Ireland.
Those attending the event heard about the importance of early diagnosis and new treatments that are emerging.
The conference in An Chúirt Hotel was organised by ATTR Amyloidosis All Ireland and the Irish Heart Foundation.
See Thursday’s Donegal News for full coverage from the event.
