A DONEGAL councillor is urging people in the Newmills and surrounding areas to try and conserve water as there is currently a huge demand on supply at the Rahan Reservoir.
Cllr Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly said he is keeping a close eye on the situation as areas including Tullygay, Newmills, Bomany, Kirkneedy and surrounding areas have been affected by low water pressure and no water at certain times of the day.
“I am keeping a close eye on this and water flows are being monitored and checked daily and I am being told that there is still huge demand on supply on Rahan Reservoir,” said Cllr Kelly.
“The Caretaker is still doing the water conservation measures each night and this is possibly affecting supply in early mornings. But I have been made aware that they have to do this to build up water level in the Reservoir otherwise supply issues will be even worse and more widespread. So I’d urge people to try and conserve as much water as possible when possible.
“This will more than likely continue into the new year due to holiday weeks and high demand unfortunately. This is not what anyone wants to hear but unfortunately this is the situation we are left with until the new 6km works on new mains Infrastructure get started and completed now in the new year.
“As always I can assure you I have and will continue to keep as much pressure on Uisce Eireann as possible to insure these works commence as soon as possible,” he added.
