Na Rossa v Red Hughs
Date: Sunday, September 7
Time: 2pm
Venue: Dooey
It’s been a challenging championship so far for Na Rossa and they are favourites to be relegated.
They have already shipped big defeats against Naomh Muire, Milford, and Naomh Columba and will play in the relegation play-offs.
The Rosses men just don’t have the strength-in-depth they need and are relying on players togging out in their forties.
Red Hughs started the championship very well with wins over Cloughaneely and Naomh Muire but were stung at home to Milford in the last round.
Stephen McMenamin didn’t play in that match but should be back this weekend and Darren O’Leary’s team will be keen to win and get their momentum back.
Jack Gillespie’s return to the Red Hughs side is massive this season and in Calvin Bradley, Jonny Carlin, Cathair Browne, and Liam Carlin, they have scorers.
Red Hughs should win with a bit to spare.
Verdict: Red Hughs
Naomh Pádraig, Uisce Chaoin v Burt
Date: Sunday, September 7
Time: 2pm
Venue: Maurice McMenamin Memorial Park
The group phase of the Intermediate Championship has been dominated by Inishowen derbies and there is another this Sunday in Ture as Muff and Burt prepare to go to battle.
The pressure is on Burt, who have been in relegation play-offs in each of the last five seasons, and are desperate to avoid them this year.
However, they need to avoid the bottom four to do that and are playing catch-up to achieve their objective.
A win over Naomh Pádraig might not even be enough and they could need favours from elsewhere.
Naomh Pádraig have had a super championship to date and feel they can go all the way to Intermediate glory.
Kevin Lynch is gradually getting back to full fitness and Naomh Pádraig have a young and vibrant side.
Burt don’t carry the same type of attacking threat but they are a hard team to beat.
They won’t fear Naomh Pádraig but it would be a surprise if Daniel McCauley’s men can’t dig out another positive result.
Verdict: Naomh Pádraig, Uisce Chaoin.
Realt na Mara v Malin
Date: Sunday, September 7
Time: 2pm
Venue: Gaelic Park
Both teams have four points to their name which may be enough to take them through to the knock-out stages.
However, it will all be about positioning in the table this weekend and avoiding one of the in-form teams in the quarter-finals next week.
Malin have won one game and drawn two. They were second best against Fanad a fortnight ago but still managed to get a draw and were without Daniel Mullarkey, Ciaran O’Kane, and Ryan McGeoghegan.
Realt na Mara were defeated by Muff in their first match but have since bounced back with wins over Fanad and Burt.
It hasn’t been a campaign without its headaches as they have lost Oisin Walsh and Niall Carr to cruciate injuries.
It’s usually quite tight when these sides meet and they played out a draw in Connolly Park last year in the group stages.
Bundoran have home advantage this time in Gaelic Park and with Gary Glancy and Jamie Brennan in attack, they should have enough to get the win they need.
Verdict: Realt na Mara
Gaeil Fhánada v Buncrana
Date: Sunday, September 7
Time: 2pm
Venue: Pairc Uí Shiadhail
This is the big match of the weekend in the Intermediate Championship.
Buncrana were considered to be one of the strong contenders to win the Cathal McLaughlin Cup before a ball was kicked.
However, they have only won one of their three matches and find themselves under pressure this weekend.
They will be particularly frustrated with their defeat to Muff in Round 3 as they failed to score a goal from a penalty and missed a number of frees late on.
After losing their first two matches and drawing in Malin, Fanad will be delighted that there is something on the line for the last group match with Buncrana.
Aidan McAteer’s men need to win and hope that Burt are unsuccessful against Muff.
Fanad did beat Buncrana in the quarter-finals two years ago so they won’t fear them.
Buncrana will be wary but they should have the quality to claim a win in this clash.
Verdict: Buncrana
Naomh Muire v Naomh Columba
Date: Sunday, September 7
Time: 2pm
Venue: The Banks
Naomh Muire and Naomh Columba are two teams tipped to go deep into this championship but will we see them go at each other at full pelt this weekend?
Naomh Muire lost to Red Hughs while beating Na Rossa and Cloughaneely comfortably.
Naomh Columba have eased to victories in all three of their matches and have a huge score difference.
Even if the Lower Rosses men win on Sunday, it’s unlikely to be by a cricket score, and Naomh Columba will probably finish higher on the table on the basis that more than two teams will end up on six points.
Will that come into consideration for Danny O’Donnell and his Naomh Muire team? They might opt to really go after it and put down a marker or possibly save the good china for when it matters during the knock-out stages.
Glen will want a good challenge as they don’t want to go into the quarter-finals without any proper assessment of their capabilities.
Naomh Muire don’t lose many games at the Banks but Naomh Columba might have enough on this occasion.
Verdict: Naomh Columba
Milford v Cloughaneely
Date: Sunday, September 7
Time: 2pm
Venue: Moyle Park
After a disappointing start down in Glencolmcille, Milford have picked things up with wins over Na Rossa and Red Hughs.
They were really on it in the first half at Pairc Aodh Rua, establishing a ten-point lead at the break.
There has been a shake-up of the Milford team in recent months with three regulars picking up cruciate injuries but Rory O’Donnell is back fit again, and Joey Cullen has also returned to the team.
They’ll be hoping to build some traction and will fancy their chances against Cloughaneely even though the Pairc Naomh Fionnan side won when the sides met during the league.
Things have fallen away for Cloughaneely since that and they can’t make it through to the quarter-finals.
Michael Lynch’s men will be disappointed with that but they will want to find some form heading into the relegation play-offs.
It could be tight, but Milford should prevail if they can handle Donnachadh Ó Baoighill.
Verdict: Milford.
