THE third annual Great Big Art Event opened in Annagry at the weekend and the opening night attracted a huge attendance.
The event is a collaborative exhibition which was created in 2021 and is going from strength to strength.
It is a gathering of Donegal artists whose talents in art differ but are equally commendable.
This year’s event featured seventeen artists that included thirteen painters, two sculptors, and two photographers.
Ranafast based artist Morag Mc Cafferty is the coordinator of the event, and every year she pulls together a great collection of talent for the three-day event.
She said the aim of gathering is to enjoy a ArtFest weekend that is accessible to everyone, an event to relax and escape from everyday life.
“This is a chance for people to come together, talk to the artists and hear the stories of their work. Every artist involved is unique to their gift and spend hours creating art. We have a very varied mix this year from oils to watercolour, resin to pin point, photography, sculptures, illustrations, pop art, and realism art,” she said.
TV personality, novelist, and playwright Amanda Brunker was the special guest to open this year’s event and she paid tribute to the talented people and their work. Amanda spent some time in Ranafast recently and was delighted to be asked back to open the exhibition.
Hundreds of pieces of art graced the walls in Caisleáin Óir over the weekend, and there was much interest shown in all types.
The artists this year included John Gillespie, Michael Friel, James O’Donnell, Morag Mc Cafferty, Tina Gallagher, Jim Gallagher, Terence Gallagher, Niall Mc Ginley, Cathal Gallagher, Johnny Boyle, Bernie Anderson, Morgan Ferriter, Gay O’Toole, Rory O’Donnell, and Majella O’Donnell.
