THERE were almost thirty HSE data breaches in Donegal last year with more than half taking place at Letterkenny University Hospital (LUH).  The data breaches included a number of incidents at the hospital’s maternity department where personal medical records were found in the wrong patient’s files.

Breaches also occurred in Donegal’s Mental Health Services including an incident where an email, containing a service user’s personal details, was sent to a group containing 570 HSE staff. In one breach, a page containing patient data was found in a pub.  Out of the 27 data breaches in the county in 2019, sixteen related to incidents at LUH.
