HOUSE prices in County Donegal are the lowest in the country despite continuing to rise marginally with the average three-bed semi-detached house now costing €160,000, well below the national average of €304,259.
That is according to figures published by the Irish Independent/REA estate agents this week which show the same size home in Dublin is costing €511,667.
It states that house prices in Donegal rose by 10 per cent this year, with an increase of 1.6 per cent in the past three months.
Donegal Estate Agent Brendan McGee of Franklin’s pointed out that new three-bed semi-detached houses were making over €300,000 but that is a reflection of the price developers need to build new homes.
“The problem with the figures in this survey is they do not distinguish between new and second-hand homes. Yes, there are second hand houses available at that sort of price.
“It continues to be the case that demand for houses here far outstrips supply. 2024 will see a real battle for properties coming to market. For the few without mica issues buyers need to be ready for a bidding war,” he said.
Longford (€174,000), Cavan, (€177,500) and Mayo (€192,500) along with Donegal are the only counties where a three-bed semi-detached house can be bought for under €200,000.
