By Róise Collins

IN the wake of the destructive Storm Éowyn, which left thousands of people across the county without electricity and running water, local hotels have opened their doors to offer a much-needed support to those affected.

Their efforts have become a vital lifeline for the community during this challenging time.

In Glenties, the Coffee Lounge at the Highlands Hotel has transformed into a welcome sanctuary for those left waiting for their power to be restored.

Through social media, the hotel offered access to charging stations and hot water, while the crackling open fire has provided a cosy refuge from the storms aftermath.

Despite facing limited water supplies themselves, the Highlands Hotel also generously offered warm showers to those facing water shortages.

Over in Annagry, Caisleáin Óir Hotel quickly became a bustling hub of comfort and community spirit.

Offering complimentary cups of tea, while others charged their phones and devices, staying connected amidst the chaos.

The hotel also took to social media to offer showers to those stranded without running water, and opened their doors to anyone whose home had been damaged by the storm, offering them a place to stay for the night.

Similarly, The Silver Tassie Hotel on the Ramelton Road offered charging facilities and discounted rates to those without power, providing a welcoming space for local families to stay as they await the return of electricity.

Many families are still staying there as they face a seventh day without power.

In a show of appreciation the hotel has also been serving free take away tea and coffee to ESB workers, who have been tirelessly working day and night to restore power to the affected areas.

Meanwhile, The Mount Errigal Hotel in Letterkenny has also stepped in, offering charging stations for phones and medical devices, ensuring that those in need have a lifeline during this challenging time.
