Hospital worker’s toy appeal now in 22nd year

A DONEGAL man is asking people across the county to donate towards a Christmas toy appeal to ensure as many children as possible will wake up to a gift this December 25.

Now in its 22nd year, hundreds of children throughout Donegal have benefitted from Eunan Devenney’s annual appeal.

Eunan, a maintenance man at St Joseph’s Hospital in Stranorlar, says starting this appeal 21 years ago was one of the best things he has done in his life.

“The reason I started this appeal is because I feel no child should wake up on Christmas morning not having received any presents.

“The first year we ran the appeal we helped one family, last year we helped 80 children.

“The first thing I do is contact the social workers in Donegal, they then ring me back with the number of children under their care.

“The children range from babies all the way up to 17 year olds but everything is confidential, all we get told is whether to buy for a boy or a girl.

“There is a lot of work involved but I couldn’t do it without the generosity of the people in Donegal,” he said.

If you wish to donate to the appeal, toys or toy vouchers can be dropped into St Joseph’s Hospital in Stranorlar. If you wish to get in touch with Eunan he can be contacted on 0877684073.
