A debate about the need for an external review of Letterkenny University Hospital did not go ahead in the Dáil this evening after Health Minister Stephen Donnelly did not attend the sitting.
Deputies Pádraig Mac Lochlainn and Pearse Doherty were due to discuss the matter during Topical Issues however they requested it to be deferred until the Minister was in attendance.
Deputy Mac Lochlainn questioned why they were not made aware the Minister would not be attending the debate which he said is against protocol.
Deputy Doherty said it was very important that Minister Donnelly was present after nearly 80 health professionals wrote to the Minister over the crisis at the hospital.
Last week a letter signed by 78 Donegal GPs was sent to the Minister highlighting “huge patient safety concerns”.
