Homes and businesses urged to conserve water

Homes and businesses in Donegal are being urged to conserve water as Uisce Éireann works to restore normal water supply to customers on the Lough Mourne Public Water Supply Scheme.

The call comes after a burst to a trunk water main yesterday.

Repairs to the burst trunk water main have been successfully completed, however customers may continue to experience outages and low pressure as the water supply resumes. In particular customers in Ballybofey, Stranorlar, Glenfin, Convoy, Drumkeen and surrounding areas may be impacted.

Following the repair to the water main, it may take some time for normal supply to fully restore to all areas, especially for those on higher ground or at the end of the network. Anyone who experiences further issues with discolouration are asked to run the cold water tap in the kitchen for a few minutes. Doing this usually clears any unusual colour. Further information on discoloured water is available at  https://www.water.ie/help/water-quality/discoloured-water/

Paul Kilcoyne, Water Operations Lead with Uisce Éireann thanked customers for their patience as crews completed the works to restore normal water supply as quickly and safely as possible.

Paul also appealed to homes and businesses across the county to conserve water as Uisce Éireann recharges a number of supplies that experienced outages as a result of Storm Isha and Storm Jocelyn.

“When water supplies return, we appeal to customers to help conserve water by not running taps needlessly, taking showers instead of baths and to postpone using dishwashers and washing machines where possible. This will help ensure a normal water supply returns to all customers as quicky as possible.”

Further information on water conservation is available on our Conservation section.
