A LIFFORD man who had to be arrested by gardaí after they found him in a highly intoxicated state has been fined.
Cathal McMonagle (32), 19 Beechwood Grove, Lifford, appeared before Letterkenny District Court on Monday.
Garda Sergeant Maurice Doyle told the court how on November 21, 2024 at 01.06 at Beechwood Grove, Lifford, McMonagle was found in a highly intoxicated condition.
“He was subsequently arrested and conveyed to Letterkenny Garda Station,” said Sergeant Doyle.
The court was told McMonagle has 15 previous convictions, including a Section 3 assault for which he was handed down 100 hours community service in lieu of a custodial sentence.
Defendant’s solicitor Donough Cleary said his client has experienced issues with addiction but is now abstinent.
“He regrets what happened, and he was well behaved once arrested.”
Judge Emile Daly said: “He has been treated relatively leniently by the courts in relation to public order.”
She convicted and fined McMonagle €200, and gave him four months to pay.
