A FIFTH year student in Deele College in Raphoe has been given a rare and privileged honour of doing work experience in the High Court in Dublin.
While her classmates are preparing to undertake their work experience in various businesses throughout the county, Natasha Bonner will be rubbing shoulders with the elite in Irish Law circles, under the tutelage of Justice Nicholas Kearns.
For one week, Natasha will shadow the eminent judge, who is also the President of the High Court and she will observe the proceedings in the High Court from an enviable vantage point.
Natasha, who is undertaking the LCVP programme is carrying out work experience as part of her ‘Links Modules’ course, which is taught by Ms Gallagher.
With aspirations of studying criminology and becoming a solicitor, next week’s experience will serve her well as she decides on her future career.
Natasha is one of the first second level students to be given permission to carry out their work experience in the High Court.
A chance encounter with her local doctor paved the way for her to contact Justice Kearns and he was more than happy to facilitate her request.
Danny McFadden, Vice-Principal in Deele College, says it is a great honour for both Natasha and the school.
“This type of experience can compel students to set their goals higher and shows them that with hard work and dedication, they can achieve whatever career goals they may have.”
He hoped other students would follow Natasha’s lead and look to carry out their work experience, outside the normal areas.
