Helen Meehan ‘honoured’ at prestigious new appointment

ONE of Donegal’s most renowned historians has been elected as Vice-President of the Federation for Ulster Local Studies.

She wrote an extensive book on the history of Inver Parish and followed that up in recent times with a further highly detailed history of the area.

And those keen to research their family background have also been able to delve into Helen’s guide to ‘Tracing Your Donegal Ancestors’.

In addition she has delivered numerous talks at historical seminars and led many tours to sites of events, each of them embracing an important part of local history.

Her enthusiasm and dedication to her beloved passion has now been formally recognised following her election as Vice-President of the Federation for Ulster Local Studies that promotes the history, antiquities, and folk life of the Province.

“It was a great honour to be recognised in this way and one that I will cherish.

I’m deeply grateful to the Federation,” she said.
