Heartbreak in Ward Cup final for Coláiste Ailigh

Coláiste Ailigh 2-5 Lumen Christi College 2-8

Coláiste Ailigh hearts were broken as they suffered defeat in the final of the Ward Cup at the hands of Lumen Christi College in O’Donnell Park.

The Letterkenny school got off to a dream start and were seven points up after six minutes as Luke McGuinness scored 1-1 and Ruairí Caomhánach notched a second goal.

But the sides were level at 2-2 to 1-5 by half-time, with Corey McGuinness getting the goal for the Derry side.

Niall Brolly punched in for a goal with ten minutes remaining to give Lumen Christi a three point lead and while Caomhánach and McGuinness brought it back to within a point, the winners kicked two late scores through Odhran Campbell and Brolly to settle the tie and take the trophy.
