HEARTBREAK and dignity marked the funeral yesterday (Thursday) of Donegal fan Andrew Duffy, who tragically lost his life following Sunday’s semi-final win in Dublin.
Parish priest, Fr Pat McHugh spoke of a wonderful young man of 24 years, who loved his football, respected his parents and was shy by nature.
“At times like this you think you want to erect a monument to the deceased. Andrew has left his behind him in this community – it is a monument of a life well lived.
“If the Donegal team needed an incentive to win the All-Ireland final, it would be to honour the memory of Andrew,” Fr McHugh said.
Heartbroken young men and women from the Termon football teams formed a guard of honour outside St Columba’s Church, which was filled to capacity. They were joined by members from Glenswilly, St Michael’s Gaoth Dobhair and the Donegal team.
Fr McHugh offered his sympathy and that of the whole community to Andrew family – his father John, mother Margaret and sisters Carolyn and Leanne.
He was joined in concelebrating the Requiem Mass by Deacon Jonathan Flood, Fr Paddy Dunne, Fr Sean Gallagher, Gortahork and Fr Michael Carney, Ramelton.
