WE sometimes associate eye creams with older women because most of the products target wrinkles and fine lines.

But technically we all should start applying eye cream in our earlier twenties to prevent the formation of fine lines and dryness in this area.

Eye creams are formulated specifically for the delicate skin around the eye, so they tend to be thicker as this area has very little oil glands.

That is why they contain more oil than a regular facial cream, and they have a lot of active ingredients aimed at the problems we see around the eyes.

The skin around the eyes is more fragile, thinner, more prone to dryness, and quicker to show age and fatigue. This thinness makes it more delicate and vulnerable, and it is more prone to allergic reactions than other facial skin.

The skin around the eyes also gets a much greater workout, every time you move your eyes, whether you squint or smile you are working out the tiny muscles around your eyes. Over time, this skin dries out and forms small wrinkles, sometimes called crow’s feet.

Smoking and exposure to the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays can also encourage wrinkles to form as well as the skin making less collagen as you age.

Wearing good quality wide framed sunglasses will prevent you squinting and keep out the harmful rays. Puffiness is a build up of fluid and blood under the eyes and allergies and sinus problems can cause this.
When the epidermis becomes thinner and the underlying veins become more prominent, dark circles can form. Heredity, lack of sleep, too much sun exposure and ageing can all cause dark circles. Caffeine can help improve the circulation and reduce the puffiness.

Applying used chilled tea bags to the eyes for ten minutes helps reduce this. Cold temperatures in general are effective in treating puffiness, like using a covered ice cube to gently massage below the eye outwards should improve this condition.

One of the best eye creams I have come across is the Youth Eye Complex which contains all of the active ingredients necessary to target and regenerate damaged areas.

Using this eye cream results in stronger skin that is stronger and better to resist damage. It is the one thing I could not do without.
