A LETTERKENNY family is hoping to raise awareness of suicide and two important organisations as they climb Errigal in memory of Liam ‘Gutcha’ Haughey.
On Sunday, October 1 at 10am, the Haughey family will climb Errigal in memory of Liam ‘Gutcha’ Haughey who sadly passed away in March.
The father of two lived at Mountain Top, Letterkenny and was formerly from Listillion.
He was well known in sporting circles in Letterkenny and was a great servant to Bonagee United having played with and managed Bonagee teams.
Liam’s family are extremely grateful to Donegal Mountain Rescue Team and Sheephaven Sub Aqua Club for the compassion and professionalism shown as they assisted in the search and recovery on that tragic day in March.
The family now wish to raise much needed funds for these organisations.
They have created a Go Fund Me page and so far have raised almost €1,500.
A spokesperson for the fundraiser said, “Donations will be shared equally between Donegal Mountain Rescue and Sheephaven Sub Aqua Club.
“All donations big or small are gratefully received.
“We hope that we can raise awareness about suicide and remember Liam as the caring, genuine and honest man he was.
“We would love if you could join us, everyone is welcome.
“You are encouraged to park at the Dunlewy Centre and a shuttle bus will be provided.
“Refreshments will be available afterwards.”
A spokesperson for Donegal Mountain Rescue said, “Lee is raising money for the team, as well as Sheephaven Sub Aqua Club, with this fantastic tribute to his late father.
“We wish to extend our sincerest thanks for organising this event and contributing to the Donegal Mountain Rescue Team and wish him all the very best with his hike.”
