A catalogue of injuries and suspension means that Finn Harps travel South to Wexford this evening for their biggest game of the season with a squad that has been stretched to the limit.
Harps have lost Keith Cowan, Kevin McHugh and Ruairi Keating all to injury in recent weeks while defender Damien McNulty is suspended and will have to miss the crucial game in Ferrycarraig.
A win for Harps would guarantee that they would stay in the Premier Division but after last weekend’s amazing 5-4 win over Galway United, Wexford now have their eyes fixed on the great escape.
“It’s a massive game, but they have all been massive games,” Harps boss Ollie Hogan said yesterday morning, acknowledging however that in terms of what is at stake, tonight’s game is as big as last season’s play-off match.
“I suppose in some ways it is as big as the play off in that if we can win then we will be safe, but it is going to be a huge ask.”
Harps have had decent results in recent games including a win against Bray and a draw against St. Pat’s at home, but they lost on the road to Cork City and their record against Wexford in recent seasons has not been good.
“They have a very good record against us and I think they will be lifted after the win against Galway last weekend as well. That was a massive result for them.
We always have bother against Wexford in recent seasons and they have Danny Furlong back as well now and he always gives us bother.”
