Finn Harps 2-0 Drogheda United (Harps win 2-1 on aggregate)
Goals from Mark Russell and Harry Ascroft saw Finn Harps defeat Drogheda United in Finn Park tonight in the second leg of their play-off, and that result is enough to keep the Ballybofey men in the Premier Division for another season.
Harps were trailing 1-0 from the first leg, but they opened the scoring on Friday night when Mark Russell headed home in the seventh minute.
The Ballybofey men were the better team in the first half and Russell and Sam Todd both missed chances to extend their lead.
Drogheda trailed 1-0 at the break but they improved at the start of the second half.
Harps were under pressure yet they could have scored a second in the 65th minute but Mikey Place’s scrambled effort hit the post.
Neither side could add a goal to their tally and the game went to extra-time.
Harps moved in front in the tie in the 107th minute when Harry Ascroft headed Tony McNamee’s corner to the net.
Horgan’s men held on to their advantage and will play in the Premier Division again next season.
