Finn Harps manager Ollie Horgan says his club’s Premier Division status is now in the ‘laps of the Gods’.
Harps go into Friday’s game with Drogheda United knowing that they must win, and even at that, they still may be relegated.
Galway United, Sligo Rovers, and St Patrick’s Athletic are all still in reach of the Ballybofey men.
However, if Sligo or Pat’s pick up a point from their games with Derry and Cork respectively, or Galway defeat Limerick, Horgan’s charges will be relegated regardless of how they do against bottom-of-the-table Drogheda.
Harps have failed to win in four matches, and Horgan is not convinced that playing a side who have already been relegated will help matters.
“I don’t think any game is a good game to have on the run that we are on,” said Horgan.
“If we perform like we performed on Friday night (against Derry), Drogheda will be too strong for us.
“They’ve already beaten us in Ballybofey, and if they beat us at home again, well then we have nothing to complain about.
“We’re hoping that if we could stumble over the line against them, that might kick us on, and other results would go our way.
“If you were a betting man, you’d say no and there’s no point in me saying any different. It’s in the laps of the Gods to a certain degree.”
