Finn Harps 1-2 St Patrick’s Athletic
FINN Harps played well against St Patrick’s Athletic tonight, but it was the Inchicore men who left Finn Park with the three league points.
Ollie Horgan’s team almost conceded a goal in the first minute, but Richard Brush saved well from Conan Byrne.
Darren Dennehy should have scored later in the half, yet he couldn’t keep his header on target, and the sides were level at the break.
The Ballybofey club dominated after the restart, but they couldn’t find the goal they craved. Sean Houston shot wide, before Ryan Curran hit the crossbar.
Harps would rue those misses in the 68th minute when Packie Mailey headed into his own net, and Pat’s went in front.
Dave Scully squandered a great chance to level proceedings before Buncrana man Mark Timlin doubled the visitor’s advantage in the 78th minute.
Harps didn’t throw in the towel and Kevin McHugh scored a penalty in injury-time after Damien McNulty went down in the box and they went in search of a late equaliser.
Horgan was rather harshly sent to the stands after that, and tempers frayed in a tense finish, but Pat’s held on to win.
